We are pleased to be dedicated suppliers of the world-famous Dovo range of straight razors, strops and shaving accessories. Unlike many sites that feature men’s grooming products, Dovo Razors UK focuses only on straight razors made  by Dovo, Solingen, Germany and closely associated accessories from quality manufacturers.

Founded in 1906, the company DOVO Steelware of Solingen, Germany was originally purely a factory producing open razors, with a forge and hollow grinding shop employing thirteen workers. The name DOVO derives from the names of the founders of the company, Mr. Dorp and Mr. Voos. As a mark of German craftsmanship, the name "Solingen" enjoys the confidence of the whole world. In order to keep this trust and with it the reputation of the Solingen cutting tools, and to prevent misuse of this name, the German government passed a law in 1938 to protect the name of Solingen. The law makes stipulations relating to the geography of the production area with the intention of protecting regional industry. If an article is manufactured in Solingen but the raw materials, i.e. the blanks are produced elsewhere, the article may not bear the Solingen name. The law "for the protection of the name of Solingen", distinguishes between so-called hot-forged and the cold-forged items, which do not bear the Solingen mark of quality.

The name Dovo of Solingen, has therefore become synonymous with the Dovo quality standard of German engineering and the hot forged steel processes still used in production of the fine shaving razors listed on this website.

 

 

There has been a general renaissance in straight razor shaving over the last few years, with men coming to realise that modern multi-blade shavers do not always produce the best results for their needs. Shaving with a straight razor also takes skill and practice and gives a greater element of achievement and satisfaction from a shave than is available by using modern single-edge designs. The straight razor has evolved over several hundred years to become what it is today - a finely-balanced and durable shaving tool capable of giving a lifetime’s service with a simple care regime.

Dovo’s magnificent model 2683 ‘Bismarck’6/8 shoulderless razor.

Above: two of Dovo’s best. To the left is the much-sought-after model 3580 ‘Bergischer Lowe’ (mountain lion) model, fitted with buffalo horn scales - arguably the best blade Dovo now produce. To the right is model 985850, the ‘Large Buffalo’ razor. As its name suggests, the scales are much larger than usual, and made from a single piece of buffalo horn. Stunning!
