Straight razor accessory starter kits

In response to demand, we are now including the following three basic ‘starter kits’ for use with your straight razor. Aimed at those new to the Art, they contain the items necessary to ensure you can shave with your straight razor right away - and continue to do so.

One thing the kits do not contain is - a straight razor! Whilst this may seem odd in fact it gives you the choice as to which razor you prefer - and ensures that you do not perhaps get stuck with a model you didn’t choose and may well not like! If on the other hand you would like a razor with your kit and are happy to accept our recommendation, then just pay a visit to The Invisible Edge and get your chosen kit, complete with Dovo ‘Best Quality’ razor - AND save money too!

The three kits are:

The ‘traditional’ - contains, strop, brush, soap & bowl, alum block and strop dressing. This is the equipment used for years and years in the heyday of straight razors and of course continues with mainstream wet shaving nowadays.

The ‘modern’ - contains strop, brush, alum block and strop dressing but, instead of soap & bowl, a tub of ‘Kent’ shave cream. This cream is simply applied to the brush and lather worked up in the palm of the hand rather than in the shave bowl. The modern formulation of the cream also contains skin conditioners and menthol.

The ‘brushless’ - comprises strop, strop dressing, alum block and a tub of high-quality American Crew® shave cream. This require no brush and is simply applied directly to the wet skin for a comfortable close shave.

All the items that go into the kits can be found on this site or our sister site The InvisibleEdge and purchased individually. However, purchasing in kit form of course saves you money!

Dovo razor and brush stands

These elegant brush and razor stands from Dovo not only look good - they’re practical too. All shaving brushes should be dried naturally, preferably with the bristles pointing downwards - as on the above stands. This allows the brush to hold its shape and minimises any  risk of bristle rotting due to being left wet. The same goes for razors, both safety and straight. If left wet any carbon-steel bladed razor runs the risk of rust - placed in a purpose-built stand such as those above, the razor is allowed to dry naturally and any water drains away to leave the razor dry and ‘aired’. Crafted in satin-finished stainless steel, these stands will give years of service. PLEASE NOTE: All Dovo brushes except model 918285 Silver Tip Ebony will fit the ‘Normal opening’ stands.
